Vestal General PTA Meeting

November 11th 6:30-7:30pm

2 Welcome

Meeting convened at 6:35 by President Jake.

3 Minutes

Minutes from the last General Meeting, held October 14th, were accepted without amendment.

4 Principal Update

Sabrina was absent but is continuing to work with Sarah N on making the greater school grounds clean and safe.

5 Treasurer’s Report

  • Everything is going well according to budget

  • MoneyMinder has been excellent to work with

  • Steve’s reimbursement form for teachers has been a success

  • Winter Arts Showcase request for refreshments:$245.90

    • Jake moved to fund the showcase’s refreshments for the above amount. Seconded, approved 9 yays, 1 abstention.

7 Continuing Business

  • Discussed Garden updates:

    • Jake reviewed updated Garden plans

    • Jake reviewed the Garden update timeline: start in the main NW section, moving clockwise around the garden, deferring big updates that could be disruptive to Garden classes until the summer.

  • Kristen & Beth are participating the Ecomaker “Changemaker” fellowship program which will open up grant and volunteer opportunities for Eco-adjacent activities.

  • Local Tae Kwon Do gym to help with the Outdoor Classroom tree planting and would love to help with the Garden updates.

  • Discussed Pancake Breakfast in January:

    • Having those cooking pancakes in the gym would be nice

    • Hot chocolate was a hit last year

    • Will need lots of volunteers!

  • Discussed Walk Bus changes:

    • Jake and Rebecca will lead a walk bus on the west side of 82nd down 80th.

    • The route on the east side is changing to better accommodate the folks who participate.

    • Walk buses will be on Wednesdays for the east side, Thursdays for the west side.

  • Discussed a potential fundraiser with Burgerville:

    • Would receive 20% of sales from 5-8pm (Monday-Thursday), 2-6pm (Sunday).

    • Could have someone asking folks to say they want their money to go to Vestal (maybe distribute a pamphlet).

    • The fundraiser needs someone to drive it.

  • Rock, Paper, Soiree is going well with several folks taking active roles.

  • Reviewed what will happen around Ruby Bridges Day.

  • Discussed the end of SUN fall term.

The meeting was adjourned by Jake at 7:30pm. We hope to see everyone at our next PTA meeting on December 9th!
