Vestal Elementary
Neighborhood Bike Fair
April 11th from 2:45–5:00pm
Thank You for Making the First-Ever Vestal Bike Fair a Huge Success!
We’re so grateful to everyone who came out to the very first Bike Fair at Vestal Elementary on Friday, April 11th! From free biking lessons and safety skills, to quick bike repairs and helmet fittings, the afternoon was full of energy, learning, and community connection.
A huge thank you to our incredible partners—PBOT, Portland Clean Energy Fund, Metro, and Portland Public Schools (PPS)—for their generous support in making this event possible. And to the many dedicated volunteers who helped guide rides, fix bikes, fit helmets, and keep things rolling smoothly—this could not have happened without you.
We’re thrilled with how it all came together and are already dreaming of doing it again. Here’s to more rides, more learning, and more fun in the future!
Keep an eye out!

About the Green Team
Our Mission
We are dedicated to supporting and empowering Vestal students, families, and staff to create a more sustainable and climate-friendly school community through advocacy, action, and strategic partnerships. Our vision is twofold: first, that our local efforts will positively impact the broader Montavilla community, making it more livable, equitable, and healthy for everyone; and second, that Vestal students will develop a strong sense of environmental stewardship, which will positively influence their decision-making throughout their lives.
Our Core Values
A Clean and Safe Environment, Greening the Campus, Safe Active Transportation, Support for Garden Education, Social Justice and Advocacy
Green Team Initatives
Community Care Days
Regular grounds cleanups to keep the schoolyard clean, safe, and litter-free. These efforts not only ensure a welcoming environment but also encourage students to take responsibility for maintaining their shared spaces.
Bottle Drop Recycling Program
We support sustainable practices through our Bottle Drop Recycling program, promoting recycling and waste reduction as a way to minimize our environmental footprint.
Greening the Campus
We are committed to the ongoing greening of the Vestal campus. This initiative creates healthier and safer spaces for students to learn and play, while also fostering climate change resiliency for the future.
Safe Routes to School Advocacy
We advocate for safer streets and improved infrastructure to ensure that students can walk, bike, or roll safely to and from school. We work with community partners to enhance safety and accessibility for all.
Community Cycling Programs
We support active transportation through community cycling programs, such as the Vestal Bike Bus, Loan-a-lock, and helmet programs. These initiatives promote biking as a healthy and sustainable alternative for students and families to commute.
Vestal Garden Education Program
We actively support the school’s garden education program, which connects students to food, nature, and each other. We help maintain the garden through regular cleanups and summer watering, ensuring it remains a thriving educational resource.
